Green Lagoon
Lagoa Verde is a spot of shallow, calm, typically green waters and is one of the highlights of the northwest coast of Ilha Grande, very close to Araçatiba Bay.
Lagoa Verde (Green Lagoon) is also a tourist nickname, like Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon). Its geographic name is Ilha da Longa (Long Island). At normal or high tide, it's separated from Ilha Grande; at low tide, it's joined by a narrow strip of sand and rocks. It's one of the few places on the planet where greenish corals are found, hence the name. The marine fauna is a spectacle in itself, thanks to the shallow depths of its clear, calm waters.
The boats are anchored, and visitors can disembark to swim and float on "noodles" (foam floats) provided by the crew. The spot is perfect for snorkeling, relaxing, swimming, and diving alongside small fish ("Sargentinhos" – scientific name Abudefduf) waiting for breadcrumbs and food.
