Blue Lagoon
Lagoa Azul is a natural pool with a sandy bottom, some rocks, and predominantly blue water, located between two islets in the important historical region of Freguesia de Santana. It is a geographic cluster of Monkey Island, whose northern tip is the closest point on Ilha Grande to the mainland. The region is stunningly beautiful, with hidden corners worthy of being called paradise. It is very close to other sensational beaches: Grumixama, Baleia, Freguesia Sul, and Norte.
Blue Lagoon, a tourist nickname inspired by the 1980s film classic starring actress Brooke Shieldes, is one of the most popular tourist spots on Ilha Grande. Boats are anchored, and visitors can get off to swim, float on "noodles" (foam floats) provided by the crew, snorkel, or feed bread crumbs to the "sergeant" fish (scientific name abdufdef), already addicted to being fed by visitors. In high summer, the area is packed with speedboats, sailboats, and schooners.
